HANDSOME men make the best semen and attractive women have the most pleasant voices. Carles Soler’s team at the University of Valencia in Spain asked women to rank the facial allure of men whose semen quality had earlier been measured according to medical criteria. They found that men with the most attractive faces also make the highest quality semen (Evolution and Human Behavior, vol 24, p 199). As if to confirm that some people have it all, a study in the UK finds that women with the most striking faces also have the most siren-like voices. Sarah Collins and Caroline Missing of the University of Nottingham played recordings of 30 young women to men who later viewed their photos. The men judged women with the nicest voices as the most attractive, on average (Animal Behaviour, vol 65, p 997).
