Fighting talk

Richard Leakey’s Wildlife Wars (Pan, £7.99) is an African memoir of a different ilk. “My fight to save Africa’s natural treasures”, written with Virginia Morell, is self-aggrandising and certain. While running Kenya’s national parks, Leakey sent helicopter gunships to shoot down elephant poachers. Even conservationists disapproved. But Leakey has no regrets or second thoughts.
