Two people in Thailand have suspected vCJD. If confirmed, they will be the
first vCJD cases outside Europe. Public health officials in Thailand are warning
that the country鈥檚 cattle could be infected with BSE. Before 1996 Thailand was a
major importer of British livestock feed, which contained ground-up cattle that
might have had BSE
(New Scientist, 10 February, p 10).
Other suspected cases in South Korea and Spain, also importers of British cattle feed, are
waiting for confirmation.
