A new broom worth 拢1 billion will soon be sweeping through British
university labs. The government is providing 拢775 million for
refurbishments and new equipment between 2002 and 2004, while the Wellcome
Trust, Britain鈥檚 leading life sciences charity, will add 拢225 million for
biomedical research. The lobby group Save British Science welcomed the windfall,
