Bioluminescent organisms put on a mesmerising light show in the upper oceans,
but we don鈥檛 know if the show is as widespread in the deep ocean. At an
oceanology conference in Brighton last week, researchers from the University of
Aberdeen presented their solution: a weighted pod that slowly sinks. Any
bioluminescent organisms light up as they hit the screen on the bottom of the
pod, and a super-sensitive video camera records the cast of undersea
characters.
