Former Norwegian prime minister Gro Harlem Brundtland has been nominated to
head the WHO by the 31 national representatives who sit on the UN agency鈥檚
executive board. Her appointment as director-general should be rubber-stamped by
the World 91色情片 Assembly in May, allowing her to take over from Japan鈥檚 Hiroshi
Nakajima in July.
Brundtland had strong support from Western nations, which hope she will shake
up an organisation that in recent years has lost its unchallenged leadership on
health issues to other UN bodies amid accusations of inefficiency.
