PAUL Davies, from the University of Adelaide, is the editor of a series
of books to be published by Allen & Unwin called Frontiers of Science. The
series will cover cosmology (Davies’ specialty), physics, biology, biochemistry
and earth sciences. The books are aimed at the general reader, not the
specialist. The first in the series, Quantum Technology, appears next
week (Allen & Unwin, $16.95, paperback). The book, written by
Gerard Milburn from the University of Queensland, explores new technologies
emerging from quantum mechanics, such as the scanning tunnelling microscope.
