In an attempt to attract money from US companies and government agencies,
the builders of Russia鈥檚 Mir space station last week disclosed many of the
station鈥檚 technical details.
At a conference near Washington, officials from NPO Energia, the agency that
developed Mir, paraded the specifications of their product. The event was
intended to smooth discussions between the US and Russia over Russia鈥檚 part
in developing the international space station Freedom.
The Russians were also seeking Western customers who have been reluctant to
spend money on ventures involving Mir without a clear idea of Mir鈥檚
technical features and limitations.
