One of Britain鈥檚 rarest birds, the red kite, has had its best year for
a a century, says the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. The 79
breeding pairs in Wales, one of the bird鈥檚 last strongholds, raised 93 chicks
this year under the watchful eyes of volunteers, farmers and the army.
Kites reintroduced to England and Scotland after an absence of a century
bred successfully for the first time this year.
