ROBERT GREENLER’s Rainbows, Halos and Glories (Cambridge University
Press, pp 195, Pounds sterling 12.95) is the belated paperback edition of
a colourful and informative book about optical atmospheric phenomena, first
published back in 1980. The gorgeous pictures naturally catch the eye first
– and are also available as colour slides – but there is a lot of easily
digestible physics and some amazing ‘did you knows’ about rare optical effects
that you just might be lucky enough to see, if you know when and where to
look. A winner.
